What is a Resume?

Your resume is a very important tool for you to sell yourself to potential employees. It is the first impression which you will be providing to your prospective bosses. Do not be shy to advertise yourself and be brave to tell your employer how you can contribute to the firm and the benefits you will bring with you should the firm decide to hire you!

How to write a good resume?

Planning is the key here. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. You need to know what to write and how to write your resume. Be concise and go straight to the point. As you read on, SG Course Guide will lead you through this planning process.

How to prepare to write your resume?

1. Write down all your previous job experiences, education background, strengths and weaknesses that you possess. If you are unsure of your strengths and weaknesses, get a few close friends to evaluate for you.

2. Decide how you can use your previous work experiences, education qualifications, strengths and weaknesses to your advantage in your resume writing.

a. I am a people’s person, all my friends around me enjoy my companionship. By stating this strength, you are likely to be assessed as someone capable to work in a team with a likeable personality and strong sales skills.

b. I ask for perfection in everything I do and so, some of my colleagues might think that I am being too fussy. By stating this strength, you are likely to be assessed as someone who is meticulous in your work.

3. Use Microsoft word to write your resume and make sure that there are no grammatical errors. Also, ensure that the dates you had provided in your resume are correct. Save it in PDF file to show your professionalism.

5. Always be truthful in your resume.

SG Course Guide Special Tips

Your resume should be Customized!

1. Every resume must be customized to suit the requirements of the job you are applying for. Employers do know whether you make the extra effort to write a customized resume or you are just submitting a ‘one size fits all’ resume.

2. Moreover, by customizing your resume you show them that you are THE ONE by writing down all the attributes they are looking for. Hence increasing your chance of landing an interview.
